Last Monday night the world’s finest film, television, musical and artistic figures gathered at a star- studded event at the Venetian Theater in Macao to celebrate China’s 10th Huading Awards. The show was directed by Oscars’ director Don Micsher. The Movement’s very own Sharon Savoy proudly stood among global superstars such as Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage, Jeremy Irons, Mathew Perry and Avril Lavigne as winners of the award. Savoy, an already well-acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and teacher, graciously accepted the Huading award for Best Global Female Dancer.
“What I found most amazing was that dance was honored alongside famous actors and actresses,” states Sharon Savoy. “The Huading awards recognition of dance elevates the status of all dancers and the art of dance.” This was the first year that the Huading awards nominations were global making Savoy the first female to receive this international dance award. Savoy’s previous accomplishments include (but are not limited to) being a 3X World, 4X Blackpool, 7X US Open and 3X Star Search Dance Champion. She has performed on impressive world stages, such as Madison Square Gardens, the Sydney Olympics, the Kennedy Center and Hollywood. Savoy is a legendary exhibition ballroom dancer, having distinguished herself based on beautifully executed lifts and transitions. Her well-received book, “Ballroom! Obsession and Passion inside the World of Competitive Dance” is set in the Blackpool competition (comparable to Tennis’ Wimbledon), and provides a backstage pass to “the gladiator pit of competition ballroom dance.”
The prestigious Huading Awards are collated based on a people’s choice survey in 21 countries, and throughout Asia. The awards began in 2007 and are sponsored by Beijing corporation: Global Talents Media Group.

Sharon Savoy is a ballroom phenomenon. She started her training at the illustrious School of American Ballet under the tutelage of the legendary George Balanchine. From there she found her true love, pas de deux, or the art of partnering, and became a decorated ballroom dance exhibition champion. Her biggest accomplishments include being a 3X World, 4X Blackpool, 7X US Open and 3X Star Search Dance Champion, being the featured Dancer in the Hollywood movies “Dracula- Dead and Loving It!” and “Head of State”, as well as performing on PBS, Regis and Kathie Lee, Entertainment Tonight, Miss America, Sydney Olympics and at the Kennedy Center.
Aside from performing, she is the author of a recently published book, “Ballroom! Obsession and Passion Inside the World of Competitive Dance” – a back stage pass to the Blackpool Exhibition, aka: the Wimbledon of dance. Most recently, she co-organized the ultimate dance cruise of 2012, “Cruising With The Stars”, headlining Karina Smirnoff from Dancing With The Stars, and was also invited to judge the Blackpool Exhibition Championships in May 2012. These accolades are only half of what has contributed to her success; the rest comes from her keen intellect, charming personality, and humble character.
